“Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend.”
Martin Luther King, Jr.
The kind of unconditional love Jesus teaches and exhibits is completely irrational. Loving as Jesus teaches in this passage would almost always lead to being taken advantage of, ridicule, harm or even death. The presence of one who did love this way exposed in humanity our deep need and fear. However, if we and our enemies are not faced with the futility of our “rational” ways, in the face of irrational love, then we will never grow into wholeness. We need this irrational love of Jesus and the more who find the strength to love like this, the closer we are to knowing peace.
I hope you will join us this Sunday at 10:00am for meaningful worship, thoughtful exploration, and community, as we explore this week’s text together. If you cannot join us in person, we will be attempting to stream this service through Internet Streaming.
